What is the North Idaho area like?
The Idaho Panhandle contains a quarter of all Idaho's land, and includes over 300 square miles of water area. The estimated population of this area is close to 300,000. The major towns are Coeur d'Alene, Lewiston, Moscow, Post Falls (my family's hometown), Hayden, and Sandpoint.
To the west we border the state of Washington, with the large city of Spokane which includes the regional airport, Spokane International (GEG). To the east is Montana, with the split border Lookout Pass ski resort, my family's personal favorite, and the city of Missoula. And to the north is Canada's British Columbia.
How about Coeur d'Alene?
Coeur d'Alene is the largest city of the pleasant Kootenai County in the panhandle of Idaho. The city is currently home to approximately 40,000 residents and sits at an elevation of 2188 feet above sea level. It is 30 miles and 260 miles from the larger cities of Spokane and Seattle, Washington, respectively.
The beautiful Coeur dAlene area offers four seasons of natural beauty and outdoor activities. We enjoy snow skiing, camping, fishing, and long bike rides along the Centennial Trail. Lake Coeur d'Alene and the Spokane River both offer great boating, fishing, water skiing, and swimming oppurtunities. The Coeur d'Alene Visitors Bureau has more information. Those interested in commercial properties may wish to visit the Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce.
What is there to do?
In North Idaho, there are many beautiful lakes, rivers, and forests, including Lake Coeur d'Alene, Lake Pend Oreille, the Idaho Panhandle National Forest, which has approximately 3.22 million acres, and Farragut State Park. There are three Native American Reservations: the Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai, and Nez Perce. Many regional names are from the local Indian tribes. We also have our own theme park, the fun and family-friendly Silverwood. Included with admission is the splendid Boulder Beach, Silverwood's large water park.
